Rarely unexpected things may be found during surgery. This can mean that a bigger operation is needed. For example if a tumour is stuck to a vein, your surgeon may need to remove a section of the vein and connect the ends together again. Rarely it may not be possible to remove the tumour.
We try to predict which operations may be affected by what we see during surgery. If we think a tumour may be stuck to something we will give you this information, but we cannot always predict this. If any change to the planned operation was needed we will explain what was different and why.
Unfortunately, sometimes surgery has to be cancelled or delayed. If you are unwell surgery may need to be delayed for your safety. If there is any chance your surgery will be delayed, we will tell you as soon as possible. Please understand that this would be a last resort.
